Parents of School-Age Kids
Parenting for roots and wings
In the school-age years, parents are faced with new joys and challenges. Kids are becoming increasingly independent and spending more time outside the home with other peers and adults, which can make parenting can feel more complicated than ever. In our sessions, I work with parents of kids under 12 to help bridge the connection between school and home, support parents in exploring what this new stage means for their own personal development, and set the stage for the parent-child relationship in adolescence. Examples of topics I can help with include:
-Effective communication with your child
-Appropriate boundary setting
-Talking with your child about difficult topics
-Navigate your child’s emerging independence and the relationship with your own identity
-Repair after a relationship rupturing moment
-Support your child in dealing with separation anxiety, phobias and sleep difficulties
-Learn strategies for parenting a child with neurodivergence
-Create healthy family schedules that meet the needs of parent and child
-Develop family mindfulness practices to support mental wellbeing
